the fun begins, i have already lifted the carpet and padding along with the tack board i am currantly using a heat gun ( i plan on painting the concrete so any chemicals are out)
However the padding left a nice fuzzy border surrounding the basement the heat gun just burns it even at its lowest setting scraping isnt cutting it what are Your thoughts on power sanding ? will this cause a variation in this part of the cement?

I would use a floor scraper it is available from your local home improvement centre. You can get one with a 4 or 6 inch blade. They can also be re-sharpened when they dull.
