On the front of my house, I have a cement step leading to my front door. I am planning on put a deck type step, using composite materials instead of the cement step. I am wondering If I need to remove the old cement step, or can I build right over it?

Also, if I have to remove it, what is the easiest/best way to remove it? I am worried about damaging the foundation of my house while removing the old cement step.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. When i get home tonight, I will take some pictures of the step, which will maybe better help you understand what I am talking about.

Thanks!

right now I have to step up to get into the door of the house. I want the top landing to be even with the door, so you can walk right in.

By building over it I meant, adding a step, and making the top landing/platform, higher than the current cement is. It wont be directly on the cement, but will be built above it, the risers will be higher than the top of the step itself.
