This tree sits adjacent to my pool so when those brown and white petal pieces fall off they often fall into my pool and eventually end up in the skimmer box but because the pieces are small there's no easy way to remove them with the bucket in the skimmer box since they fall right through.
Couple of questions...

What kind of tree is that?
Is it considered an expensive tree?

I may replace it with plants but wanted to get that info first. Any other suggestions?

Maybe leave the tree.........and use a skimmer sock inside your skimmer bucket. About a dollar each and washable and re-useable. A Google search or pool store.
If you skimmers do not have metal handles that stick up, use polyspun hairnets in your skimmers. Amazon, 100 for $7.50 I've been on a pool forum since 2012 and that has been the best tip/value I have ever received. they are very water porous yet catch everything, including the smallest of pollen. You can almost forget cleaning your filters anymore...just toss and no washing...

I would trim-up the tree and you could plant some ground-cover that doesnt shed and use it to catch the debris falling from the tree...
