In the bath tub. In the concrete slab is a steel pipe going into a cast iron base. I want to replace this Steel pipe with ABS. This steel pipe has an outer lay or part of another pipe around it that rusted away. You can see what is left of the outside pipe at the base of the cast iron.

Should I remove the steel pipe totally? how would I do that. it looks like its welded in or something. I don't see any threads

Also if I cut near the cast iron base and put a fernco. Will the steel not eventually rust away also?
