Block the toilet up and determine if a length nylon cord, or similar strength strong string, will flush through past the toy by dumping a pail of water in. You did keep one end in your hand didn't you?

Next tie a rag to the flushed through cord and pull the rag backward through dislodging the toy. If the cord rag combo is insufficient, a rope can be taken through being you have the string in place and tie a larger rag onto the rope until that little feller gives.

Remember that Clove Hitch knot? Works great to secure the rag.

Leave about a 3 ft. length of cord or rope tail so if it won't pull through it can be pulled back.

There's also a tool called a Mechanic's Fingers, it is a flexible spring thing with a push button that has another shaft inside it to go into small places to grab onto things that are dropped where you cannot reach.

It is about 2 feet long, and should get to the toy.

Someone dropped a comb down our frat house commode. Tadpole and Birdman had the commode off and after fishing for it for an hour plus they broke for lunch. In the meantime another made use of the toilet. Tadpole cradled the bowl, walked down the steps, out through the formal foyer and smashed it center of 34th & Powelton. To add insult, we fined him $50 bucks.

A hammer was the only tool capable of getting the lid from an eye liner case out. The stupid thing was stuck like a hinge. Sometimes it would flush and sometimes it would not.

A butter tub lid works the same way. Reminds us of an erratic butterfly valve. That's where I learned to go bigger rag rather than the hammer blow in the side right where that kid told me to pop it. But the hammer did reveal the culprit and warrants a new toilet of course.
