Hello All,

I am going to attempt to replace my old attic ladder. My house was built in the early 60's and I need to replace my broken ladder. I had a lot of trouble finding a ladder to fit the same size rough opening hole. The one I chose is 1 1/2" inches longer than my old opening. I got up there and measured and found that I need to remove one of the double braces (two braces back to back) in order to fit in the new ladder kit. I am not very handy but I understand how the new ladder is suppose to go in. I need help in figureing out how to remove the one brace. I'm gusessing that it is nailed into the ceiling joist at both ends. Is there a saw or some special tool that I can beg borrow or rent to cut along the ceiling joist to cut the nails off in order to remove the one brace. I'm up for the job but just need a little helpful hint. Thanks.
