Hello,

new to the forum. My car's paint is getting destroyed by tree leaves and bird droppings.

I would like to put a cover over the walls that is removable. I was considering a tarp across the whole section connected by hooks but I wasn't sure if it would be windproof. Another idea is to put a wooden base covered by clear plastic over the top of the walls, it would be hinged where I can flip the cover towards the back and lock it in place if I want to have no cover, but i'm not sure how to keep it locked in place.

I also wanted to put a cover from the Porch to the beginning of the wall's so I can protect my sibling's cars when they come over. At times we can fit 5 cars in this small lot, 3 towards the back wall and 2 reversed in perpendicular to the 3 cars. The car's are used everyday so we can't individually cover them up.

Any suggestions or ideas would be great.

I doubt you could put up any temporary covering and expect it to be wind proof. Have you considered individual car covers?

A tarp will collect water and collapse, especially one that size. I only envision framing up a roof system and applying either a lightweight metal roof or regular shingled roof over the compound. I see no need in having it open. What would be the gain? You would have basically a garage as opposed to a three sided swimming pool.

We can trim the trees but the tree's so close that it won't be any better. Also when we move the cars we play basketball so I wanted it open. Individual car covers would be too much effort and we would have to wash the car every time we put on the covers.

Individual car covers, as mentioned. A bit of a pain to take on and off everytime.


Portable garage? Available in various sizes, materials and colours. They do have to be anchored against wind but a lot of folks up here simply use concrete blocks.

With floor trusses build a deck on top of it.

It doesn't have to be open to play basketball - you could raise the wall height and then construct a roof. .... assuming zoning doesn't prohibit the height.
