I am getting married and my fiance has two girls. I have a very large finished basement in my home and we would like to build a bedroom for them to share. I need any ideas as to how best to do this. We are planning on doing the work ourselves. Thanks in advance.

For starters, a major issue will be egress windows. Building codes in most (if not all) places require them for basement bedrooms. You'll have to get specific requirements from your local building department. (Though maybe, if the basement's already finished, those requirements have already been met? Best to make sure.)

With the egress mentioned you would also get light and ventilation. Then source of heat, smoke alarms, and wiring. Be safe, G
