My front door, back door dead bolt and keyed entry locks are keyed alike. I use one single key for all those locks.

However, I have a side garage door (same key way Schlage) that is not keyed the same. I would like to key it the same as well.

My plan is to remove the side garage door locks (one dead bolt and one lever keyed entry) and bring it to a locksmith and ask to have it rekeyed to the key I have. Would that work?

Or do I need to remove one of the existing locks that works with that key, and have the side garage door locks keyed the same way?

In other words, can a locksmith rekey a lock given a key to match, or do they need to rekey given a lock to match?
