Reinforcing floor trusses.

I'm remodeling a bath on 3rd floor of townhouse. Would like to drop floor 1 1/2" in shower stall to avoid need for a curb. If I take the top plate off trusses (18") in shower area & sandwich the remainder between staggered 5/8" plywood (like you put on a 2 piece hip rafter) will that reinforce the trusses sufficiently?
If not, any suggestions?
