I have a side by side Whirlpool refrigerator. Two months ago the freezer would not go below 20 degrees. The tech said there was a blockage in the system. He flushed, fill, changed oil, added thawzone and recharged.

Now the same problem is happening. Freezer won't go below 20, refrigerator temperature good. The suction line is frosted right up to the compressor. Evap fan is working and coils are not frosted up. Heat exchanger is clean. Can't be an overcharge of refrigerant because it was working after he left. He did not changed the dryer which I believe he should have done since he had the system open. Is a plugged dryer the problem?

He installed one of those clamp on self piercing charging valves. Should he have solder on a valve>

I'm not looking at your refrigerator but from the info you've given I'll tell you what I think. If refrigerator is freezing back to compressor then it is overcharged. We like to solder our valves in but I won't say we never use a tap. Just prefer to solder in the valve. And if there was a blockage yes we would have changed the drier, pulled a vacuum and weighed in a new charge. The thawzone is for drying the system. A drier does the same thing. Sometimes the refrigerator is just not worth spending that much on though. I think it might be best to talk to the person that originally repaired the unit and see what he might have to say. Sealed system repairs can be costly
