Have a Goodman ac/heat pump that blows hot air. About 3yrs old. Fan turns on outside and compressor I think is running. The line that goes outside to the unit is very hot. Set the temp and since it blows hot air did not reach temp on thermostat. Sounded like compressor was running and then shut off before reaching temp. Not sure if this means something or if it was the compressor. Fan outside turns and runs. Possible fixes for unit? Thanks for your help.

Was a new thermostat installed this fall, winter, or early spring. If so, make sure its set up to energize O on a cooling call.

Is the air coming out of the outdoor unit hotter than normal and not blowing straight up, off to the sides.

That would be a plugged coil, remove loose debri and backwash it with low pressure, high volume water from a hose. Do not use a jet nozzel, spray straight opposite direction the air moves.

The coil can look okay but be dirty.

In cooling mode insulated line should be cool or cold, liquid warm. If the insulated line is hot it's running in heating mode.

If both the small and large copper line are hot, its running in heat mode. Check to see if you have 24 volts between O and C at the outdoor unit.
