Wow, that came out great!! who ever painted it black did a disservice to that desk...
My grandpa and I laugh about that. Back in the day, he rented an office space. The landlord included the desk, and told him to toss it in the trash if he wanted to. :vs_no_no_no:

But brass over black paint definitely fits the part for the 50's/60's. Not my cup of tea though

Great save!

I hope that whoever painted it is now doing penance in purgatory.

They were a disgrace to wood craftsmen.

Did you replace the brass with replicas of the original, or find a close match to the original.

Edit: my mistake , I did not look good enough at the pictures, I see where the old brass was broken, and now replaced with new. Apology forwarded.

That is a great desk and you did a wonderful restoration on it.
I love old things and antiques -- especially when they are brought back
to their glory days, and you certainly achieved that with your
Grandpa's desk

My only criticism is that you didn't keep the old Chippendale pulls.
If you didn't like the brass, there is a rustoleum antique bronze
spray paint that you could use on them. Is it too late to try it?

Love old stuff like that.

How about a pic of the inside of the drawers. I'd like to see how they built them.
Will do. It's called jigsaw, I believe, the way that the inside shelf compartments fit together.

I gave them away unfortunately, very stupid on my part. But that is a good idea you have there. I stood in the isle of home depot for 10 minutes, just staring at different handles. I'm happy with my choice though.

There is another compartment in the back of the drawer.

And these cool pull out trays above both top drawers on each side.

I also discovered there is a locking mechanism that triggers when you push the middle desk/tray in all the way. It prevents every drawer from opening, at all. Very, very cool.
