We are having problems with our sewer system and our local plumber says we just need to replace it because it is too old. He will replace it for roughly $600.00 if we dig up the basement floor and replace the cement when he is done. How do we go about that and what is the cheapest way to do it if my husband is going to do it himself? Thanks

Have the plumber make out where the line goes. Then use a concrete saw but if dust is going to be an issue the you can use a demo hammer or jack hammer.

Before I would tear out anything I would get it camered to see what is really wrong. Just being old is not always a reason. Is it collapsed or is your plumber just not getting it cleaned well enough.

The plumber has rootered (spelling?) it out 3 times in about a 2 month period. We (plumber and my husband) think they are clay tile pipes because other have been digging that type up to replace them. The plumber is thinking why he can't get the rooter ruder thing down the pipe is because it is build up from so many years that it gets hard like cement and he can't break it up to get it pushed down. How would he know where our pipes lay? Is it something when we start breaking up the cement we start at the drain and go a foot at a time to make sure we are on track?

You can go with that method of just going a ft at a time. But if you have it camered most cameras have a locater in them and it can be located.
