Reccomendations on thread sealant for brass shower valve? Teflon tape isn't working, I was told by a friend Redctorseal No. 5 is what I need. If not, reccomendations on thread sealant.

Can/should thread sealant it be used on CPVC threads too?

sometimes it takes 7 or 8 wraps with the cheap, thin tape. if that doesn't work, something ain't right. rectorseal is good stuff and will work just fine, most plumbers prefer pipe dope anyway.

TFE paste with two wraps of tape should work---

One sure way to spoil a threaded connection is to solder to close to the connection---

Always solder the pipe to the fitting---then cool completely--Them screw it in---if soldering near by--wrap the threaded fittings with a soaking wet cloth.

Hope you didn't over-tighten and crack the casting. Brass usually does not leak even without anything. Its relatively soft.
