Looking to add recessed lighting to my very dim and dull bedroom and living room. Any recommendations on which ones to go with? Are there any good ones I can go with that doesnt need the cans?

Suggestions on how far apart from each other and how far away from the wall? Ceilings are about 7''5".

Thanks

Just my own personal opinion, over head lighting in a bedroom or living room is pretty much useless.
Living room the only time I ever even turn my fan light on is when I'm vacuuming, bed room over head light only gets turned on when cleaning or making the bed.

I see this spammer ^^ is getting better at inserting links no one notices.

In a nutshell, the spacing of your lights will depend on the size of fixture you purchase, 3", 4", 5", 6" and its trim. There are different desired effects with each like whether you want general even light, focused light, or supplemental light.

In a bedroom, there usually is only 1 spot a bed can be and the other furniture varies in type and how many there are. So with a grid of recessed lights you may get a bright spot on only one side of the bed, or a hot spot on a tall armoire. The more successful uses of recessed lighting in bedrooms I see is when there is a focus or unique attribute, like putting lights over the windows, in a soffit, or around a tray ceiling.

Living room has a little more leeway.

I appreciate all the feedback. My wife and I saw 1 from lowes for about $31 each canless but wasnt sure it they were good enough. What's a popular recessed lighting to go with for you electricians that are used to doing this?

Also I attached a layout of my bedroom (quick and some numbers may be off 1/2 to an inch or so, if they dont add up. I was in a rush while the baby slept).

Any suggestions on a layout for this room? Bed will be center of the wall (brick) across from the window and tv under that window.

Thanks again for the help.

If you must have recessed, I would probably keep it to two 4" cans over each window, on a dimmer.

An electrician will install any fixture you give them. Most aren't exposed to the paper side of lighting, but there are some on this forum that are in tune with it.

I think so just in the master bedroom. Theres 1 light in the room right now and it's so dull, I believe its ag the edge if the room because it was an addition built onto the house and there was 1 big room, now its 2 so that was probably center.

I'm not a fan of just adding lamps either 😑
