After I installed recessed lighting in my son's room I noticed at night a lot of light pouring down onto our stairway. This was pretty glaring at night. I mocked up some cardboard trim pieces to block the minimum amount of light and they did the trick. This room has four of these Philips LED lights.
I cut the trim pieces out of some 4" galvanized duct. I used a hammer and lightly tapped on the edges of these pieces on my vice anvil to flatten them which worked nicely. Sanded all edges and the faces. Fit them temporarily with some magnets to verify fit and then cleaned them with acetone and shot them with flat white primer/paint. Mounted with some small screws/nuts.
Light stays in the room now with minimal light pouring out into the hallway.
