I have 4 Halo h5r1cat recessed lights in one room off one switch. They were working fine for the last 5 years. Then one bulb goes out and I replace it, it still doesn't work, try another bulb that I know works and it still doesn't work. The bulb is a 50w Halogen Flood PAR bulb.

The real tough one is that if I put a regular light bulb (the one that looks like the idea symbol), it works.

How crazy is that?

Problem with the socket. The tab in the bottom of the socket is squished down and not touching the bulb.

I agree with Joed and would check that first...

Had the same thing happen on a new fridge when the light bulb blew..

Tore it half apart looking for a bigger problem..

Yes, you are right but gettting to it is a pain

Bingo!, the tab is pushed in and it would make sense why a connection is not made. Now the challenge is how to bend it back out. I tried needlenose pliers, I tried a fish hook, tiny screwdriver but they don't work. I need something very small in a L shaped to pull it back out.

I found a old dentist tool which pulled the tab out and it is fixed. Again, thanks so much to joed for his help.
