I recently installed 4 HALO (Cooper Lighting) recessed lights (6 inch, remodel, IC rated housings. These replaced 2, 5 inch recessed that were of the wrong type (non-IC in contact with insulation). I am using 50 watt (PAR 50) floods in these fixtures and the bulbs have been only lasting a week or two. These HALO's use the pre-attached push in connectors in the junction box. I don't notice any flickering or anything unusual while the lights are on, they just burn out quickly. The lights are in the kitchen and the only thing on the circuit is a few other lights. Any ideas on why thes bulbs are burning out prematurely.

Your PAR 50'S are too big. Check the model number of the Can.
Models covered by this chart have maxed 50W PAR 38's
but you can go up to 75W with other bulbs in the chart.
What kills the bulbs is the heat buildup around the bulb with restricted air flow because of the diameter of the bulb.

The PAR number is the diameter of the bulb in eighths.
Par 50 is 50/8= 6 2/8= 6 ¼" diameter

Par 38 is 38/8= 4 6/8 = 4 ¾” diameter

Other types of bulbs use the same eighths system to measure diameter.
