My experiences so far and don't mind at all if proven wrong. I hope anybody coming across reals and fakes would add whys, even if it sounds paranoid.
The supporting evidence as I see them:
For: Brands that were selling before the covid19 virus. Brands that are marked as donations to the hospitals and such.
Against: No brand name. Brands (albeit never seen before) that show up in "health" websites and such. "Health" websites with similar information and same dates. Brands that suddenly become very cheap.
Reals: 3M, Milwaukee, Honeywell. HDX (home depot house brand) is no longer listed at homedepot. Don't know why. But HDX NIOSH number is verified at the NIOSH website. I bought them long before the virus and hope homedepot unlisted it for donation purposes and not because it found out that these were not n95. Maybe it'll come back as korean or chinese equivalent.
Fakes: Obviously no brands, no niosh cert numbers or 65 out of 80 banned by fda. It is infuriating why fda will not publish those banned names.
I bought some surgical masks by POHAKU, to be delivered by june 5. Then back checking the brand name, found it doesn't exist. It is also delisted in amazon. Websites that used to list POHAKU: advocatewellness.com. icovid19.com. facemaskking.store. Facemaskking still lists pohaku but it's less than a dollar each now. 3M is about $20 each.
Maybe beggars can't be choosers. Hope bit of this helps.
BTW, FDA action is short sighted. Even if the fakes come back with another name, our government should be out there checking these things and name names. What the F is homeland security for?
