Typically, I'll hold the first course off the floor an 1/8" or so, and be sure to clean the area out with a filler/tuckpointing tool/trowel at the end of each day to make sure there's clearance. It's not a big deal, but if for some reason the flooring ever needed to be taken out, it would give you a better oppurtunity to do so with a gap.

Best of luck, stone like that on a FP usually creates alot of frustration for me. I hope you have a diamond blade on a 4" grinder, and don't be scared to use it!! :thumbsup:
