I have random cans of rustoleum spray paint, and i'm wondering if they have any secondary uses.


Like wood knots.
Could these be used to cover them, and then paint over with zinsser water based primer and regular paint?

It would be better to use them to paint various items that need protection where the color doesn't matter.


I doubt they would do a good job of sealing knots.

i see they're all oil based.

so oil based paints don't necessarily cover knots well?

An oil base primer can cover knots but oil base paints not so much. Plus the paint in an aerosol can has been drastically thinned so it will atomize and spray out of the can. Brushing over knots almost always does better than just spraying them.
