We have to vent our gas dryer out the front of the house so I'd like to put the vent up kinda under the eave to hide it. I've only ever seen dryer vents that go "downward." Is it possible to go "upward"?

Our code (based on the IRC) says the dryer duct cannot be more than 35 feet long, with (4”) 45 degree elbows counting as 2.5 feet and 90 degree elbows counting as 5 feet. There is no language about what direction it can go.
Long vertical runs can collect lint at the bottom, so it is preferable if it is accessible for cleaning.

Yay!

I'd planned to put in a dryer vent clean-out cause I can't get the one we have now in the basement clean without taking apart the pipes. Very annoying, and one time I put the tape on poorly and it blew dryer lint all over the basement for like three months before we had to put salt in the softner and noticed it :/

I'm still cleaning up the mess it made years later...

In addition to local codes, I think each manufacturer lists vent specs for their products. Also, you mention venting "up under the eave", if you soffit is ventilated, you might run the risk of vent gas and moisture drifting up into the attic space. Even if not, that's a lot of moisture exiting in an area that might not be noted for a lot of free air movement.

Agreed, no problem. I don't recall doing exactly what you're doing, but have run vertically from a basement up to the band any number of times and it works fine. The main things is to watch your total run and number of elbows to be sure they are within manufacturer's recommendations. You said "under the eave" though, so do you mean under the eave or under the soffit, and either way you don't want to maintain distance from your gable or soffit vents.

They're going into the garage on the right wall (the one near the red mushroom,) I'd like the vent to be a bit under the eave there (no soffits,) just so it doesn't show too badly over the address numbers . It won't be in the attic, just through the wall.

The total run is going to be maybe 5 foot across and 6 or so feet up, with maybe just the one 90 to turn "up" at the exterior wall. The dryer will up be on a platform we're building and we're building a new wall inside the garage for all the plumbing and the vent to be inside.

I was thinking to do a 60 or 45 off the back of the dryer, then a short bit of a flat spot that'll be the clean out, then across and up to the higher vent location. Though since the wall is basically just to hide the pipes, and isn't at all structural, we could just angle the main length of vent up to the exhaust port and skip 90s all together.
