Hi,
I've been looking for a paint sprayer, but am confused on what to buy. I'm hoping to use it for latex and polyurethane. Do I want a hvlp sprayer? I honestly won't use it a ton so was looking at harbor freight sprayers. Also what size air compressor is the minimum size? Right now I only have a 2 gal for my finish nailer

What exactly do you plan on spraying with it?
Big differance in painting a whole house and just painting one chair.

Well a headboard and then possibly basement ceiling since its pretty low. Maybe basement wall that are cinder block.

The cheapies can frustrate you with sputtering & spitting paint. I sometimes buy a cheap Wagner for $60 just to use ONCE. If you can get the paint to atomize properly, a cheapie can do the job, especially something like a basement ceiling where perfection is not necessary. If you want to invest more, buy a Graco, or a Titan sprayer. Heck, for all the more you are doing, just rent one.

How many gallon air compressor would I need? Is a 2 gallon big enough?
