My existing garage door measures 9 ft. wide by 6'6" tall. Selection is very limited for that size and was wondering if a 9 x 7 sized door would work?

My best advice....spend a few extra bucks and have it installed.....they will cut it down to fit.

Or...you can look at the construction of your opening....you might be able to change the trim boards on the side to increase the size.

Pics of the inside out outside would help.

Joe....that is what they did with mine.....They trimmed a bit off each end so that the panels look centered.

What's the door made of ?
Wood, Fiberglass, Steel, Aluminum?
Probably, not a good idea to try to cut them down -
Unless it's wood.
You're not trimming the ends of the panels -
you'll have to trim the edges (9' side).

Hey Ross....mine is a metal roll up....the ends are basically an end cap that is pushed on. I'll try to take pics later so you can see what I mean..

if you are looking at a steel door, the sections come in 18", 21", and sometimes 24" heights. They can be mixed to get different heights, usually in 3" increments. For a typical 7' tall door, you would get four 21" sections. For your 6'-6" height, you would get top and bottom sections of 21" an the middle two at 18" each. They don't cut door heights down on section doors. They will cut down the width for custom doors for a fee. That custom sizing varies by company. I happen to have a local door manufacturer that has a shop in house for custom operations.
