Hi, I'm not a roofer but I need advise on what to expect. I'm in Ohio.

Yep, nails are starting to poke up through the rubber roof put over my family room last summer. It's a rather flat roof which has had its issues over the years. I really thought a rubber roof was a good idea!

I talked to a different roofer today and he said adhesive had to go on the rubber, then roll roofing. I don't know what kind of adhesive would be used.

I haven't heard exactly how it's going to be corrected by the original roofers, but when I do, I want to know if what they are going to do, is going to fix this.

Any advise welcomed!

Thanks, Tom

Gimme a picture.

Is this the nail point, or the head coming up through the new rubber?

Either way, that should have been remedied, before the new roofing was installed, are you sure that you want to re-hire these fools.

Flat roof is most vulnerable to water damage, esp since water ponds the most. The damage may not be apparent, though. But good wood or weather damaged, nails tend to work themselves out of the holes. Sun heats it and makes everything move a little. Screws would have been better but it is impossible to blame the roofer at this point.
It's easy enough to fix. Eternabond tape. Cut 1" around the nail head. Remove the nail and put a screw half inch away. Clean and apply eternabond primer, let dry to the manual and cover with 4" width tape. The tape comes in white or black pvc liner. Used it myself and can recommend it. Amazon and homedepot sell them.
Need to repair every spot where you see the nails pop. And keep inspecting the roof.
If you can't diy this, follow your roofer's recommendation, probably not now but when few nails start to break through the rubber roof. But the work must include hammering down the nails and putting a screw next to them. This doesn't guarantee that all nails in future will stay down.

I know absolutely nothing about flat roofing, but I do know that if I had a rubber membrane with nail pops coming thru, the whole thing would have to come out, the nails replaced with screws and new membrane put down....but, that's just me. Doing a fix only to have nails pop thru somewhere else may be OK for others.

Who installed the nails that are coming up?
