I am moving my sink as part of a remodel. I need to extend the drain to the adjacent cabinet. My plan is to use a trap adapter to convert to a PVC trap. My issue is that I’m not sure where to terminate the ABS. I’d like to cut it before final placement If possible, so I don’t have to do it under the sink. Right now I have it in the middle of the cabinet, but I’m thinking that may be too far. I am planning to use a garbage disposal, so I think that will make the drain connection off center. I’m also not sure if I’ll need a 45 or some other elbow. I appreciate any input/advice.

You can cut it just as it enters the cabinet. Make sure you use the correct glue for the transition piece to PVC.

Is it a single or double bowl sink?

Is there a dishwasher?

If there is a dishwasher and you connect it to the garbage disposer, remember to knock out the plug where the hose connects to the GD. (Made the mistake once. Once)

If the duplex isn't GFI protected, you may want to consider it. I know it needs to be if it is within 3 feet of water, just not sure if that applies to UNDER a sink or not.

I would wait untill you install the sink and trap to determine where to cut.

I would be looking at moving the drain line itself so it is in the cabinet below the sink. Much easier to do the connections and to make any repairs in the future if the supply line valves and the drain work is done before the cabinet is installed.

You will also need to plan for the air gap if a garbage disposal is not put in initially and you have a dishwasher. There is also a code requirement in terms of the horizontal distance from a sink to the air vent.
