I just installed a bathroom heat lamp (thanks to the help I received on this forum) and I would like to know if I can put a dimmer on it. The instructions say that I cannot because it has a fan that blows the heat from the lamps down into the room. However, you can unplug the fan, which is what I would do. Also, since it's warmer out, I will be using 45 watt bulbs instead of the 250 watt heat lamps, but I would like to be able to dim them. I think that I should be able to unplug the fan and then dim the bulbs, but would like confirmation. Thanks a lot.

Yes you can disconnect the fan and then use a dimmer for the (incandescent) heat lamps. I would not recommend installing a dimmer and also using the fan from time to time with the dimmer all the way up because it is too easy to forget and fry the dimmer or the fan.

But generally putting a dimmer on a heat lamp is a useless thing to do. Heat lamps don't give off that much heat and when you would turn on a heat lamp, you want all the heat you can get.
