I'm building a wire rope fence (1/4") and my cutter died halfway through job. First time building a wire fence but after researching new cutters that don't cost an arm and 'finger,' I've found that the cheaper ones tend to wear out or not work at all. Thought I would post here for recommendations from electricians, etc... This is for steel wire not insulated cables.

I'd like to spend around $30 which is still barely on the low end. It would nice if I could sharpen them as well but haven't seen that.

Just a quick thought, how about bolt cutters?

Bud
As long as they can cut 1/4" wire cleanly... Which they can't. Looks like a cold chisel and a piece of steel to lay wire against... Or grinder with thin cut blade, or a chop saw. A dremel--which I have via estate sale--should work as well. 1/4" is not for the meek and mild cutter.

You want quality and cheap and really need to pick one. Harbor Freight for cheap and Amazon if you want something that will last. Advantage with Amazon is you can read the reviews by people who have purchased a tool and used it.

I approach tools very differently as I still use tools that my father used on aircraft as a mechanic and troubleshooter during World War II. I am using freqently using hand tools that I myself bought as a teenager.
