In order to do what you want you have to make sure you have a 14/3 Romex up at the fan. Check that first.
Putting a light switch on a fan
I have a dual switch with two light switches on it. I want one to work for the fan and one to work for the light. Right now the fan is plugged up to an electrical outlet and operates with pull strings. Before I set my house on fire does anyone have any advice?
