Hi there,

I have a burnt bus bar in my 100 amp "meter/load center" out door box (don't use SquareD breakers for replacement in a Siemens box, even though they fit)

I had an electrician give me an estimate that I can't afford to replace the entire box, and there's really no need to.

I have purchased an identical box and want to just swap out the bus bar, and all the breakers (6) including the main (included with the new box)

My plan is to shut off all the main and then pull the meter (smart), swap out the bus bar, and breakers, put the meter back in and turn on the main breaker.

Am I missing anything?

Will SDG&E spank me for pulling the meter, and if so how hard?

TIA

might be different in Cali, but in NY, once the poco shuts you off they will not turn you back on until an electrical inspector gives them the ok. (in other words, pass a inspection)

What I heard from the electrician was that they were 4-6, maybe 8 weeks out on these types of requests, due to the run on solar installs. I don't really want to go to the bother and expense of getting the permit from the city ($300) and the wait on SDG&E. Does anyone have any experience with doing this work without asking? I have to think the "smart meter" would notifiy them of the outage, but I would probably be down for less than a half hour. I'm hoping they think it's just a hiccup in their monitoring.

you could get a hefty fine for cutting their seals.if you get caught the city/county will hit you also.and yes the sdg&e will see it pretty quick.without permits ad
nd or notifing them, they might call it tampering.big fine maybe.it does a line test.if the test shos no meter, they are on the way.you better re-think this.
