Pull chain on light

827 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Startingover
The pull chain pulled down....then stuck an won’t go back up so I cant use this kitchen light and it's my favorite light. It has a wall switch but The chain is handier. I must turn it on and off a dzn times a day for 8 years.

The chain for the light is the middle one. My daughter can replace chain things in a fan but will this be more difficult since its in the light section? If its harder I won’t bother her about it. Thanks

If I ever get the light on again I’ll start using the wall switch

If she can replace the chain in the fan, she can do the same with the light.
Make sure the breaker is off, and pull the light kit down.

Looks to me that you unscrew the finial (stylish nut at the bottom where the chain comes through) and an upside down cap holding the switch falls off.

Caution, support the lamp arms from above since they and the small cylindrical part (middle of the lower light section) they are fastened to may fall down also.

You can use strong tape up to and around the hidden nipple below the fan blades and above the mid sized cylindrical compartment above the light section the latter that I think falls apart as I mentioned abov.e

You may need to replace the switch on the fan kit. They should be available at your local Home Depot or Lowes.

Turn off the breaker, and pull the light kit cover (maybe screws?), and remove the wires from the switch and the switch itself. Write down which wires go where for easy replacement.

Possible correction, I see a screw on the side of the light section, up and to the right of the chain as pictured, which I think should be undone to release the lower cap of the light secton.

The chain stuck in the pulled down position is a common symptom of the chain switch having worn out.

I would remove this or these screws and expect the switch is in that cap on the end of the chain.

Great. I tried drawing on this photo but couldn’t.

I’ll wait till this self-distancing is over to go to Lowes.

Thank you all.

$2 is a lot better than $100.
