Getting ready to remove trees that interfere with my power lines goig out to one of my sub panels at a machine shed. One of the power poles is border line needing to be replaced. Looking at the trees there is one very close to the pole. Dumb question but is there codes that would stop me from leaving part of the tree trunck standing and attach the wires to the trunk of the tree I want to remove? Long term I want to go underground with the wire and dont feel like purchasing a pole at this time.

Ok. How about cut tree down de bark it then sink it back in the old poles location. Just be giant pole at the base.

You could, but it will rot eventually. Tree trunks don't hold up all that well. Poles are treated to prevent this. Why not just get a replacement pole? Used poles are available and usually fairly cheap.

Honestly have not priced a new pole. Keeping an eye out on craigslist but my current pole sticks 20' up. Everything I have found so far is to short. Not sure if I really should be using a treated pole as the current location is close to my drinking well (not sure if there would be a leaching problem).

$5 per foot for great condition, $2 per foot for worn out poles. That's one example from one source. Your local sources may be different, but that gives you a ballpark: a couple hundred bucks at most.
