I had a roof leak a few months ago, and I just finally got all the drywall repaired. The final drywall sanding was completed on Thursday. I still have to clean the dust off the walls...then time to prime & paint A few questions:

1. How long should I wait before priming?
2. What's the best primer (type & brand) to use on new drywall & mud? I plan to use Sherwin Williams duration paint.
3. How long do I wait after priming to paint?
4. How long after painting should I wait to put painter's tape on to do the next area?

Well, here's what we do:

1. After sanding, clean the walls with a moist - not wet - cloth. HEPA vac sometimes too. We wait 3 hours - or a good lunch.
2. B-M "Fresh Start"...expensive and may be overkill, but has done us proud in a number of different situations/substrates/finish paints/sheens.
3. Sometimes we start painting in as little as 6 hours but we prefer overnight prime-to-paint. I've seen as little as 3 hours...
4. Depends on what finish paint you use but a latex paint is fully cured in about a week. Your tape selection is critical however...

Others may differ - but this is close.

So I should use delicate surface tape for fresh paint? My original thought was to use Frog Tape, but it's a bit too sticky i think to use on fresh paint.

I've used delicate surface (the green stuff) tape, but it tends to fall off the wall.
