Well apparently there is at least one BM store saying the same thingYou sure about this, Chris? I talked to the guys at Lowe's and Home Depot and they said there's primer in that there paint can. I think you're trying to pull a fast one! :devil3:
The HELL you say! Heretic!THERE IS NO PRIMER in paint with the label that says paint and primer in one:vs_no_no_no::no::no::no::no:
No, it won't have any durability. So there is no primer in the paint labeled such but is there paint in the primer not labeled such?
Seriously though, is it okay for me to use a primer as a finish coat if I am happy with the color and the sheen?
Any paint and primer in one SHOULD be able to be used without primer in SOME circumstances. Read the fine print on the label, it will explain when you need a primer. Aura, I would trust, but over bare wood, no. The paints I use I would trust. I will not give an opinion about any of the ones from the big box stores. If there's no primer, then why do paints such as Aura say "paint and primer together"
http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/for-your-home/paint-products/aura-waterborne-interior-paint
These still require a separate primer?
You can, but as stated, it will not hold up and forget trying to clean it.So there is no primer in the paint labeled such but is there paint in the primer not labeled such?

Thank you and Monger. You can, but as stated, it will not hold up and forget trying to clean it.
Not sure why you mention big box, I specifically mentioned BM stores. We're talking about applying it to DRYWALL. If you spot prime any nail pops/fixes and then use a quality BM paint/primer the store said that's all I need.Any paint and primer in one SHOULD be able to be used without primer in SOME circumstances. Was I arguing with you(or anyone)? Not sure why you mention big box, I specifically mentioned BM stores. We're talking about applying it to DRYWALL. If you spot prime any nail pops/fixes and then use a quality BM paint/primer the store said that's all I need.
I don't think this is a debatable subject about what you perceive or not.. the results are there from people that have done this before. I don't know why you would want to use a big box paint at all.. It's like buying nice paint but using a cheap brush.. never makes sense.
I will! They suck! If you compare any of them to a REAL quality paint then you will see what I'm talking about. If all you ever do is compare them to another box store brand or Sherman williams you are just comparing junk to junk.Any paint and primer in one SHOULD be able to be used without primer in SOME circumstances. There really is no argument. Unless you want to argue about how effective the marketing BS is. There is nothing chemically different between a regular old fashioned paint and a "paint and primer" product. The only difference is the marketing and the extra money they charge for it to cover the second gallon of paint they MIGHT have to give away as a warranty claim. Was I arguing with you(or anyone)?
Chrisn, I do paint, and have read your thread, as have 415 people!THERE IS NO PRIMER in paint with the label that says paint and primer in one:vs_no_no_no::no::no::no::no:
By "box store brand" do you mean brands that are sold in box stores, like Behr or Benjamin Moore?[/COLOR]...They suck!
