Prevent drainage pipe from clogging with leaves

356 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  SeniorSitizen
We recently bought a new home in Houston. The previous owner installed a drainage pipe on the side of the garage that drains water that flows off a retaining wall and driveway next to it.

When it works, it works well. Unfortunately the grate gets gets clogged with leaves very easily and doesn't let any water flow through to the pipe. After every storm I've had to go out and manually clear it in order to drain the area

What are my options to fix this?

A couple bags of river rock might help. (the larger size - 1 to 3 inches)

Remove the pipe and replace it with a concrete swale.
