I'm going to build a double swing set for my grandkids between 2 trees. The trees are 13 feet apart.
I plan on bolting either 3 - 2x6 or 2x8 pressure treated beams (16" long) together between the 2 trees.
My questions is will 3 2x6 bolted together be strong enough?

I would go no less than triple 2x8's for that span. Are you making contingency plans for the trees dying after bolting up this beam? What type connections are you using at the trees?

They're mature trees (~ 18" diameter). On 1 tree, it branches into 2 thick 'Y's where I'll anchor and support 1 side.



On the other side I plan on using 5-3/8 lag bolts thru the triple thick beam, into the tree. Also, on this side I going to lag bolt into the tree another triple beam wedge support under the long triple beam for additional support.



Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.
