Prepare land for shed

564 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  ron45
I need to prepare land for a 12x8 shed. I would like to dig 3 ft extra on each side for enough clearance and a better look so I'd probably be looking to clear out 15x11. I would like to dig about 5" down all around to lay down crushed blue stone as opposed to concrete.
As opposed to digging by hand, is there a small machine I can use to dig up that land? I can't get large machinery in my backyard as there is not enough clearance but I heard someone once say they make machines that are about 3 ft in length that can do the job, just not sure what it may be called. Is it some kind of backhoe or bulldozer?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you can operate one.?

5" inch down is like a half shovel full
15' x 11' = 165 square feet

4 of your buddies + you and that comes to......

about 33 - 40 shovels each.

1-2 Cases of Bud light.
Some home made sandwiches or BBQ.
And a couple games of horseshoes.

It all depends on where you live.

Here, in the Rocky Mountains, If you can get a shovel down even a 1/4 way, you are lucky.

I tried it by hand, after a half hour, I went down the street to my local rental store and rented one of the mini-excavators. Time well saved and money well spent.

Nah - you want them to show up. Offer real beer. :devil3:

Maybe a digging bar or pick would work. Just saying if you can't operate the machine get a little help from your friends.
