Hi,
New to the forums, but lots of great info. My house is a 1997 build, with a poured concrete foundation. My basement is unfinished and has a bulkhead leading out to the backyard. problem is my bulkhead is pretty weak- i'm pretty sure i could just rip it open with a couple of strong tugs.
1. The rough opening is 39x80, concrete on the walls and floor, wood header at the top(not sure i'm using the right terminology). I'd like to install a 36x80 pre-hung steel door in the rough opening. Can i install directly into the concrete? using tapcons or something of the like? I'm not worried about cosmetics, rather, just want a secure door, as another layer of security/deterrant to the bulkhead. i'd also like to keep as wide as an opening (i.e. 36" vs 32" door) as possible, since i move a lot of junk in/out of the basement during the season changes.
2. is this job something straight-forward enough for me to take on? I've never hung a door, but i'm patient enough to read/watch youtubes.
3. Other than a hammer drill, any other power tools required? would i be able to get by on this job, with one of those $60 hammer drills they sell at HD or lowes?
thanks for all the adivce.
