Hello to All,

Have a garden that went to seed w weeds and now I have tilled it up...it looks good now, but when it warms, 1000's of potential weed seeds.

I was wondering if I applied a pre-emergent herbicide, would it prevent my potatoes from producing? The potatoes have many eyes where up to 1/2" of an eye is growing out. Other eyes are barely visible. Would the p-emerg-herbicide prevent any of the smaller eyes from developing? I am sure that the more developed eyes will grow, yes?

each brand has its own characteristics...usually, roundup is sprayed the season before planting to kill off weeds or hay, then plowed under and its fine to plant...after rereading your post..potato eyes are seeds( for the most part), so your going to put down seed killer then try and grow seeds...

You've already paid for professional advice so my recommendation is to take advantage of that and give your county extension service a call with your question.

Another option is the quote from an unknown gardener " there's nothing better for your garden than foot steps ".

and I might add, take your hoe with you. I added a picture so you would mistake no mistake on that one.:biggrin2:You don't necessacellery need a pusher / puller, most any hoe will suffice.

That's a great thought on calling my extension agent,.i just left message w him to call me..appreciate the thought.

I have 2-3 hoes & other gardening tools. But, my garden is 225ft L & 65ft W. that would be "A LOT OF HOEING". That kinda sounds obscene.

The p-emergent herb was more for a turf than a garden...I contacted my county extension agent and he sent me 2-3 .pdf's and I have a good gameplan...I'll save these bags for next yr's turf applications...appreciate the follow-up guys

Actually, the gameplan was to see if the potato eyes would work since their already growing, then I was going to germinate all the other seed plants and plant the seedlings when appropriate...

try it in a 5 gallon bucket so you can have control and check whats going on every few days, before dropping pounds of it in the garden area..

With a hard freeze on the horizon pepper season is over . It's amazing that 1 banana pepper plant and 1 bell pepper in a raised bed can keep us supplied with fresh peppers all summer - fall and sill have a few to freeze for the winter .
