I bought a power washer 25 years ago to paint my house and only used it once. I recently moved to AZ where the water is high in calcium and I have to clean thick deposits of calcium from my swamp cooler. It is very time consuming scraping it all off, but then I remembered I still had the power washer. I have House Wash soap and I wonder if there is something better to use.

Ayuh,..... Spray it with vinegar as a pre-soak, before ya wash it,......

Acid eats calcium,......
Thanks, that's what I ended up doing manly because I could not get the soap injector to work. I lost the manual and I couldn't find any information on that model at all. I guess because it was before the internet was fully established with data.

I plan to use the power washer on a 45ft steel shipping container for preparation to paint, but I guess I'm going to have to use a brush to apply the soap before using the power sprayer.

For the swamp cooler visit a Janitorial Supply and purchase a acid cleaner with some bite, like 9 % to as hi as 23 %. Those at approximate 9 % or recommended for stainless will possibly come in a pump spray bottle. Rinse with a garden hose after allowing to chemically react for about 5 minutes. For heavy calcium buildup more than 1 application may be required.

I never run cleaners thru my PWer. I always apply it with a pump up garden sprayer as it does a better job. Once the cleaner has set but not dried I'll finish cleaning it up with the PWer.

Mark is correct by not using the p-wshr to apply anything..mainly bc your not able to apply it evenly and since it mixes w water, it's highly diluted.

You can also add a non-ionic surfactant to the pump up sprayer and it will reduce the water tension btw substrate and soap and cause it to stick and work much better...an oz per gal will do the trick
