Sorry, I know this question has been asked a lot....I've read a lot. But like most people I think my situation is unique and have some specific questions.

I am having a shed installed (20x10) approx 30' from my house on the garage side. My main and breaker box are on the opposite side of the house. My main cutoff (200amp) is outside the house, load distribution breaker box inside the house in the spare room. No cut off in the breaker box.

I figured on installing a 60a sub panel in the shed, running 6/4 wire from a 60a two pole breaker in the box. I think 60a will be plenty for me. Currently I'll only be running one power tool at a time, some lights, charging some battery operated tools, and a window shaker. I think 60a will be plenty for my needs and give me room to grow.

I had a small metal conduit that was running from the attic down the inside of the garage wall, through a hole to a single receptacle on the outside of the house. I disconnected the receptacle and removed the wire going to it, then was going to replace it with a larger sch40 pipe to run the power to the shed. My problem is the wire is going to go through various places. The load box is in the wall with top access to the attic, along the attic, then down and through the wall, trenched under ground, and up into the sub panel. I was originally going to run a single like of 6/4 but I'm reading that you can't run that through conduit, but I don't want to run direct bury as I will be running along the attic as well. Basically what's the best way to get the wire from the load box in the far side of the house, through the attic, down and through a wall, under the ground, and into the sub panel?

I think I confused myself, I feel like I gave too much unnecessary info and not enough necessary.

Thank you,
Chris

It's not a wire, it's a cable. A wire is a wire. A cable is a bundle of multiple wires in a sheath.

You can use NM cable in the house and then splice to individual THHN wires in a conduit...
Or you can use THHN wires and conduit all the way.
I would use conduit all the way.
Unless there is a reason you cannot.

The problem with the attic is that there isn't a straight shot across the house, not for rigid conduit anyway. With nm I it would give me the flexibility to maneuver slightly. But then I run into a different problem. Because I have a vaulted ceiling in the middle of the house, with two attic entrances, I can't crawl from end to end. I was going to run 2" pvc across the attic just to give me the ability to fish the cable from one end to the other. But I understand you can't run nm through "conduit".

I guess I could use a rigid snake and try to pull the nm across, taking advantage of the rigidity of the 6/4. Then run it to a junction box and run wires in conduit from there.

Can you run multiple sub panels in series?
