So confused, I tried finding the breaker for the bathroom light and after going through all the breakers and none worked I flipped the main house breaking and that didn't work either. Is something up with my tester (doubt it, works fine elsewhere) or is something up with this wiring?

What are you using for a tester? If it is a non contact pen tester the are notorious for giving false readings. Plug in a light or radio to find the breaker.

It's never failed me in three years, it's odd all of a sudden it's throwing false positives. No? It's as if the ground (bare wire) was triggering it which is odd, the black (hot) wire wasn't

Use a real meter with leads for actual contact. I have had those non contact pens go off in my tool belt, which was no where near any type of live wire (conductor).
They are just not reliable when you have your hands on potentially live wires.

You need to place a load on the circuit under test !
Then re test.
if it changes with a load ie goes from pos test to neg test
this means you have phantom or ghost voltage
Google will explain all if you search for ghost voltage.
