Do I need any post caps or strap for this beam or can I just toe and end nail this in place?
I checked a few online resources and books and it looks like either an overkill post cap or toe nails.
My plan is to also drill 2 holes 2" from the edge and add 8" lag screws (Timberloks) which will tie into the end grain of the top plate (new adjacent wall).
TIA

Run a 24" flat strap horiz. across the top plt./beam, 1' on each. 18" strap vert. on post/beam, centered. 12" strap bent 2"around your post to the old last end stud(next to ply) bent 2". A35 Simpson is fine on both sides of other wall top plates, install vert. Be safe, G
