I am remodeling my cabin that had no exterior sheeting. I have added 1/2 plywood and will be using tyvex but am not sure if I should cover the girders with tyvex then rain screen then siding as well.

The siding will be hardie 4X8 panels and furring strips for the board and batten look.

The 1st photo attached is an area that the girder has already been replaced by previous owners. They said there was a deck there that caused the damage. I'm not convinced that was the only problem so since its all opened up and would be easy I'm thinking I should hose wrap as low as we have horizontal wood ( ie. bottom of girders)
Second photo is just an example of what I think is how it was usually done

So can I install my tyvex to bottom of girders
or have it stop at bottom of rim joist and paint the girders

Most likely siding
If not we would be using trim same size as beam with z flashing at horizontal joint.

Your window should have a pan flashing. :crying:

I tried to crop out my hasty mistakes. Winter was coming fast, 3 feet of snow fell that weekend. That's another flashing detail I need to address

Thanks for the helpful videos and prompt reply.
So if we don't use trim board can the wrap go to bottom of beam with siding over it
or does it have to be like the second photo where there was no trim board and siding ended at rim board

The post and pier raised floor situation I'm in is causing my questions.
All the photos and or how to videos either show post and pier with exposed beam or foundation flashing detail with concrete block

I have always had the idea that the beam should be covered to look nice. That second video, they should have had a flashing over that board so water wouldn't sit on it.
