What do you all think?

The bottom of that trap is 10" off the ground and the top of it (where it goes into the other pipe) is 15" off the ground.

The first pipe (left) is the washing machine, the middle is the kitchen sink and the right one is the vent.

Yep- it should replace the washer though.

A simple cutting job I can handle but if I am jackhammering I may have to postpone.

So the washer should discharge into the sink and the sink should have a pump that dumps into the pipe the washer was discharging into?

Anything else to add? Like ... use a saw and cut it flush to the floor or .... use a torch and try to pry it out at the bottom fitting or ..... cut it x inches above the floor?

This is how everything ties into the kitchen above if that helps. Please ignore the giant lead pipe drain, it has been replaced by now.

Here is what I arrived at. Don't mind the horrendous photoshop skillz.

Pete : If you say that bottom trap is 10" off the floor, I assume by your photoshopped image that the drain outlet for the sink is too high. Most utility sink basins are very deep and if you're much higher than 16" you're going to have a problem hooking it up.


If I was you, i'd try to remove everything there down to the lowest hub at the concrete. Leave the hub of course. Use a fernco "Donut" (google it) to adapt your cast iron hub to sch 40 pvc or abs (whichever you prefer). Your abs/pvc fittings will be a lot more compact than those others, and everything should fit together nicely. Remove as much of that kitchen drain as possible to alleviate the weight of the heavy metal bearing down on a plastic fitting.

A washer should be on a 2" line- it would be best if you could tie into the base of the kitchen line and leave the re-vent as you show.
The laundry sink is ok the way you have it- just lower it like Allen suggested.
