We recently bought a new home and I think there may be an issue with the shower. The walls of the shower are tiled, and there is a fiberglass base. When standing in the shower the floor feels quite squishy, especially on the left side. Also, the grout on the floor tiles close to the shower are much whiter in color then the rest of the house. And it's not just by the entrance to the shower, the tiles on the other side of the wall in the dining room have the whiter grout as well. Is this a sign that there is a leak? Is there an easy way to check without ripping out the shower floor?

It's possible it may a leak. Any stains on ceiling below??

The quishyness you feel may be due to the support at shower base drain has been compromised.

Do you have access from underneath to take a look at what's going on under there??
unfortunately its the ground floor and I have no basement or crawl space.

You mention it's a brand new house. So I assume there is some kind of builders warantee. Please check that route out first. It may save you a lot of time and money.

I don't know of any other way but to remove the fiberglass shower floor and check and see what's going on. Looks like it's caulked and probably glued. So it would be best to call your builder warantee first. Just a suggestion.
