Hi,
Some upwind handlers (split heatpump) have the fan under an inverted a-coil.

Is this any better or worse that the a coil below the fan?

The tech said it is Positive airflow... This unit was a Trane Hyperion GAF. My instincts tell me that with out really excellent filtration this could run into problems if it needed cleaning... or if the coils ever started dripping... as it would hit the electronics.

I do like the idea of enclosed insulation... which sounds easy to clean.

Still expensive compared to some other variable speed fan handlers.

Trane claims its better.

Its not really any different than if a cooling coil is put on top of a gas or oil furnace.

Not sure, but if, later down the road, condensation drips from the coils into that Variable ECM... I am thinking... planned obsolescence...

Planned obsolescence would be if they stopped making replacement motors for it.

Lack of maintenance would be the more likely problem if condensation dripped down onto the motor.
