Could you give some suggestions on the best/easiest way to install/fasten a vinyl post on top of my front entrance portico, flat rubber roof?? Existing wooden railing system and posts are rotted and I want to replace with vinyl system. Don't know whether to sleeve the vinyl post over a toe-nailed 4 X 4 or use a metal installation kit, or what?

Hate to penetrate the rubber roof membrane, but must figure out best way to do it. Builder apparently toe-nailed the 5 X 5 wooden posts in, seemingly without caulking or flashing around the bases, now rotted.

Thanks

Same issues

I have the same issue although the leaking came from poor flashing where my portico attaches to the house. I have to replace a bunch of rot. When I do I want to put up vinyl railings without penetrating the rubber roof membrane. I hope someone out there can answer this question...
