We are beginning the process of educating ourselves on replacing the aluminum siding on our home with a new vinyl Certainteed siding. We have read several months of forum questions and responses so first let me say thank you to all of you responders as there were issues we had not considered, and now are educated about. We still have a small dilemma remaining that we can't decide how to make this work. We are siding a two story home that has an attached porch roof on the first floor front. Any suggestions on how to incorporate on the two little side eaves of the porch into the siding of the wall as we will have corner posts under the porch and above the roofline?

A picture here would help.

If I'm imaging this correctly, your porch roof hits a two story portion of wall. Above the roof section, you install a J channel parallel with the slope of the roof. When I resided my house, I kept it up about 1 1/2" above the surface. I prefer to hold it up a bit since I don't want to put extra holes in the step flashing close to the bottom of the wall.

Carry a measurement line from a two story high section of siding horizontally over to this area to be sure your alignment is correct. This way, your first little triangle shaped piece will be the correct size.

Pic of similar situation

I can post pictures tonight of the porch area in question but found this image online that illustrates it for now.

Thanks in advance for any advice. We have never sided before so any comments and suggestions are welcome.
